So yesterday we were all sitting around at Easter lunch (quick side note: it was so great - so much food - Kristen made a better-than-restaurants salad, there were casseroles, yum!) Well, out of the blue, Kristen says, "Hey Spanish quiz, what does 'campero' mean?" She had seen it on a sign and said it was something to do with chicken, and a cartoon chicken was wearing a cowboy hat!
IT WAS A POLLO CAMPERO!! Where had she seen this? Not 30 minutes away in glorious Silver Spring. I looked online and it was true. It's even billed as "Guatemala's famed fried chicken joint". So, at long last, I've found a bit of home here in the states. There was one of these in the Airport in Guatemala and people would consistenly take home boxes of this chicken to relatives in the states. Every time I flew the plane smelled like Pollo Campero.
Now to those of you who don't know how momentous this is, I have a picture frame in my house with all of the special places from Guatemala in it. Pollo Campero made the cut. This was the only fast food place in Coban, so we ate there a lot. Every time I visited Guatemala I HAD to go there. This is truly great. I'm so excited. I'm thinking of going down this weekend. Anyone want to come along? It'll be fun!
Ok, quiz for the Guate folks:
I hate to say it, but I can't remember. What was the slogan for Pollo Campero?
something, something, crujiente. Wasn't it 3 words that described the chicken?? Help!!!
